A Liturgy of Complete Deconstruction

For those who have left organized religion,
Who have deconstructed completely
Who have chosen to leave faith altogether,

May this liturgy provide words of understanding.
The understanding that the church structures
Brought only pain
Trauma
Rejection.
Judgment.

If so, May you find peace and freedom.

Though many of us continue to find hope in faith,
We have seen enough of the failures of the church
To understand and empathize with your choice
And we support your decision.

If we are honest with ourselves in this season of deconstruction,
We recognize that in questioning, we too have had to face a scenario where we doubt in the existence of god,
Of Jesus
Of a higher power.

In that moment, many step fully away;
May each find Peace and healing,
Freedom from guilt, pain, condemnation.

May we who are still clinging to Jesus
Find ways to share in open dialogue,
To not fall back into old habits of evangelizing,
To recognize the person as they are,
Where they are.

Let us be reminded of what we share,
And not what separates us.
