A Liturgy of Letting Go

God,

This has been a season of many changes
For those of us who are deconstructing.
We’re in a unique place in our faith journeys

Some have left their church
Some have left their beliefs
Some have left their faith altogether.

Remind us that you aren’t offended,
Angry,
Disappointed in any of us.
That you embrace our questioning
Our doubt,
Our disbelief,
That your love is not dependent on us.

There are so many hurts and traumas,
Injuries and wounds
Associated with the things we’re letting go.
Fear of eternal torment for our mistakes.
Loss of Self-worth determined by our gender identity,
The pain of condemnation by the self-righteous,
Those who we once held in high regard.
Those who many of us once were.

Forgive us God,
For not seeing your truth sooner.
For not recognizing the harm our beliefs were causing.

Help us today to let go
Of our old ways,
Of the false doctrines,
Of the lies we were told and told ourselves.

Help us find freedom in letting go.
Amen.
