God,
That welcomes our doubts.
Our questions.
Our pain.
Who isn't afraid of our mistrust.
Our investigation.
Our wounds.

Help us to navigate our,
"Maybe ifs";

As we dig into the moments
And mistruths that have led us to
Walk away from organized religion,
Allow us to discover where you are
In this.

"Maybe if" we hadn't felt the shame
Of legalism or of purity culture,
"Maybe if" we had not only heard
All are welcomed, but had actually
seen it put into practice.

"Maybe if" the church had provided
Safe and authentic spaces for our questions,
"Maybe if" their claims to unconditional love
Had been experienced by the alphabet mafia, by all races, all nationalities, all identities.

Lord, it is hard to love the church.
show us that "maybe if"
We seek truth in our deconstruction,
And strive for true revival,
That we will find hope again.
