God,
As we go through our own
Seasons of deconstruction; and
As we find ourselves stepping away
from the structures and systems of religion

We also find ourselves being
Questioned or at times confronted
By individuals and groups who
Believe we have somehow “fallen away.”

That reaction often leads us to also react
In negative ways;
Arguments.
Rebuttals.
Snark.
Our own condemnation.

Remind us that we, too, have an opportunity
To share your love, even if it is hard.

Provide us opportunities to have open, respectful
Dialogue with those we often disagree with.
Allow us to find Your Spirit embodied in those
With whom we’ve become estranged. 

Let us each seek to listen and understand.
Give us holy words of peace to explain our position.
Grant them grace as we ask the same.

May the words from our lips and theirs
Be words you would have us speak.
May our ears be open to listen
That we may understand and be understood.

Speak to us.
Through us.
For us.

Amen.
